Up In The Air

First off, I don’t want anyone getting the impression that all I do on this blog is talk about new cameras and proclaim my love for Wes Anderson’s movies. No, this is simply my personal blog and I’ll talk about whatever I feel like talking about. Today, or rather this week, the teaser for Jason Reitman’s Up In The Air has been on my mind (among other things).

The song in the trailer is “Genova” by Charles Atlas. I talked to Charles recently (I was just curious about how Jason Reitman’s team found their music). He said Paramount Pictures contacted him directly about four months ago. Their song “The Snow Before Us” is also in the film. Pretty cool.

One of my favorite movies ever is one that not many people I know have even heard of. It’s called The Big Kahuna. It’s about these three guys (Peter Facinelli, Kevin Spacey, and Danny DeVito) who are all on a business trip together. Their goal is to sell industrial lubricants, but the topic of religion comes up and eventually it turns into this amazing character driven, very inspiring film that takes place almost entirely in one single hotel suite.

The Big Kahuna was directed by a man named John Swanbeck and I’m very excited to learn that ten years after making TBK, he’s finally making another movie.

But anyway, my point was to talk about Jason Reitman’s new film, not John Swanbeck. I’ll just say that this is my favorite type of movie. Whatever that means. Just watch the trailer.

Considering I’m the person who got you TBK for your birthday, it’s also my “favorite” type of movie. Though more specifically, it’s my favorite kind of *tone*. Concerning story, content, and genre…well, there’s just too much to choose from that I don’t want to limit my topics; but that tone is what I yearn for.

I doubt Swanbeck’s next film will be similar to TBK, which was a play written by a former auto mechanic. A voice like that is a rarity.

As for my favorite Danny DeVito film, I hate to choose, but the guy did star in L.A. Confidential, and my heart goes out to that.
