Streaming Problem

So, I’ve been having problems streaming video the past few days.

At first, I thought I just had too many Firefox extensions running, so I disabled about 30 of them. I forgot how fast my browser could be! But no, that wasn’t it.

Here, this is what it looks like:

I thought that maybe it might be a problem with my internet connection. My dad is always downloading stuff, and we have a media center and my sister has a computer, maybe they were all hogging my internet. I ran a speedtest, and got semi-decent results. Then I unplugged everyone’s ethernet cable. Ah, a little faster. But still having the problem. Wait, what’s this? Someone’s connected to our wifi! Turns out someone was stealing our internet. I unplugged our router and ran a speedtest again. We are getting over 3 Mbps. Plenty fast.

Oh wait, I just installed a new video card a few days ago. Could this be a video memory problem? Doesn’t seem like it.

Any ideas? It’s a big hindrance.

Maybe it’s a coincidence, but I had the same problem two days ago. I got rid of it, but I don’t know how.

I noticed that when I had trouble streaming, my CPU spiked real hard. So I disabled everything (FF extensions and background processes), defragged extensively w/JK Defrag, and cleared out temporary files/history. After that I could watch short films on Vimeo again; and my CPU no longer spiked.

If it’s anything that coincides with our rigs, it’s Zonealarm and SP2 update. I have since disabled Zonealarm. Why? They’re still working out the kinks with x64…so maybe that’s why my CPU spiked when I tried to stream video. ZA is the only catalyst that uses both CPU and internet. CPU occasionally spiked when casually browsing, but it was only noticeable when streaming media.

Ah, Zonealarm. I’ll try that and get back to you. I’ll defrag tonight. My FF is super fast when no extensions are enabled and my internet should be plenty fast enough.

Hah, totally worked. It plays fine with ZA. I guess I just really needed to defrag? It took about 4 hours.

SP2 probably rearranged a lot of files. Guess I’ll go back to ZA.

i ve the same problem since the new version of firefox. I m gonna try remove extensions. Could also be something running at your house interfering with your wifi. Micro wave and cell phone, depending on how you router is set. Does he use a 2,4Ghz transmission. 802,11 b or g. could be something interfering with that. I m not sure, but i tend to trust a FF problem somewhere, since this prob occured to me with the install of the newest version.

so long

Weird, it keeps coming back. Finally got my drive to 0% fragmentation and it’s still there.

It happens in FF, Chrome, IE, AND Safari, but only on my PC.

Not a wifi problem because it works fine on my laptop and every other computer in the house.
