He relies on diffusion, a &quot;workaround&quot; that sidesteps precision shadow placement and direction of light. Mendes&#039; other film, Road to Perdition, has absolutely perfect shadow placement and key lighting. But that was by Conrad Hall, an old master. In cinematographer years, Deakins is still a young man.

For extreme subjective and objective, as well as his trademark diffusion, No Country for Old Men is a fine sample to rewatch.</description>
